About
Nick Rees-Roberts is a graduate of Keble College, Oxford and the University of Sussex, where he completed a PhD on representations of queer sexualities in contemporary France.
Nick's main research interests are in screen studies (queer cinema) and cultural studies (gender and sexuality; fashion):
Queer Cinema/Theory: Nick is the author of French Queer Cinema, the first book-length study of contemporary gay/queer cinema in France, published by Edinburgh University Press in 2008. He is also the author of articles published in scholarly journals and edited collections on representations of gender, race and sexuality in contemporary French cinema. Nick’s most recent book, Homo exoticus: race, classe et critique queer, co-authored by Maxime Cervulle, examines hierarchies of race and sexuality in French society and visual/media culture.
Fashion: Nick’s current work focuses on men’s fashion imagery and screen media representation, particularly creative synergies between masculinity, style and contemporary cinema.
